LAKELAND - Rev. Thomas A. Hughes, 73, passed away as a result of heart failure Wednesday, April 6, 2011.
Rev. Hughes was born May 13, 1937 in Bronx, New York. He was an honorably discharged vet-eran of the United States Army. He retired in 2002 after serving in the Florida United Methodist Conference for 24 years.
Rev. Hughes is survived by wife: Elaine Hughes of Winter Garden, FL, daughter: Rebekah Hughes of Auburn, NY, step-sons: Larry McClellan and his wife Amy of Lake Placid, FL, Kenny Smith of Winter Garden, FL and Marty Smith and his wife Erin of Polk City, FL, 5 step-grandchildren and 1 step-great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 11am at Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home, Southside Chapel, 1727 Bartow Road in Lakeland, with Rev. Leo Lacey and Rev. Greg Presley officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made, in Rev. Hughes' honor, to Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale, FL or the Florida United Methodist Children's Home in Enterprise, FL.
