LAKELAND - Richard D. Godown, 79, passed away from heart failure Sept. 18, 2011.
Born in Reiglesville, PA, he attended Lafayette College and George Washington University Law School. He was a member of the DC Bar and admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court. He was a lieutenant in the U.S. Naval Air stationed in Newfoundland where he married Mary Hollett Godown. He was a member of the JAG Corps, Wash., D.C. He was exec. VP and general council at National Association of Manufacturers. He was director of the Washington Office Burson-Marstellar, and president of World Business Council. In 11 years, as president of Industrial Biotechnology Association, he testified before Congress many times. He was on the Board of Washington Performing Arts Society, a member of the Metropolitan Club, and Fathers Club at St. Albans School.
He was a devoted husband of 44 years to Mary. He is survived by son Chris, brother Bob, niece Joanna, loving companion to Ms. Anthony Miller. He was an unparalleled story teller "Uncle Dick" to generations of nieces and nephews. He served in the vestry of beloved St. Stephen's Church. He was a board member and enthusiastic volunteer at Talbot House, author of 2 books, an avid painter, golfer, and an amateur astronomer. Services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at St. Stephens Church.
