BENTLEY COMMONS, VT. - Ruthmae Bridges, 87 of Bentley Commons on Water Street and a former resident of both Brattleboro and Lakeland, FL died unexpectedly Wed-nesday, January 16, 2013 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, due to natural causes. Mrs. Bridges was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on February 9, 1925 the daughter of James and Ruth (Bergstrom) Bacher. She was raised and educated in New York where she attended Brooklyn schools.
She had worked as a sales associate for JC Penney's in the former Brattleboro store location and also a JC Penney's store in Ft Worth, Texas while a resident of Ft Worth. For several years she was co-owner of the Mud Hut, a small craft shop located on Main Street in Brattleboro.
Mrs. Bridges was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Brattleboro as well as the Reformation Lutheran Church in Lakeland, FL. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Of her leisure time activities she enjoyed traveling, shopping and playing scrabble.
On November 25, 1944 in New York City she was married to Ansil Roland "Jimbo" Bridges. Her husband of 57 years predeceased her on April 21, 2002.
Survivors include one daughter, Ruthmae Brid-get Gardner and her husband Bruce of Guilford, three grandchildren, five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one son, Ronald W. Bridges and a brother, James K. Bacher.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11:00 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church on Western Avenue. Burial will follow the services in Meetinghouse Hill Cemetery on Orchard Street.
Friends are invited to call at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home on Thursday from 6 to 8 P.M.
