BRANDON - Russ Driscoll lost his battle with cancer and other health issues and died in Brandon Regional Hospital on January 25, 2013.
He was born Russell Harold Driscoll on December 1, 1935 in Staten Island, New York. His parents, Russell and Helen Klein Driscoll preceded him in death. He grew up in Staten Island and graduated from New Dorp High School in 1953. He then came to Florida and entered The University of Florida in Gainesville. There he became a Brother in The Bond of Delta Chi and remained a life-loyal member of the fraternity. He also met his future wife, Candy Kohler of Ashland, Ohio. He was married in 1956. Following graduation from the University, he lived throughout the United States as he pursued a career in insurance with The Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company. He received his CPCU insurance designation in 1987. He retired from the company's Los Angeles office in 1993 as the Western Regional Vice President.
Following his retirement, he returned to Florida and settled in Brandon. During these years, he gave many volunteer hours to his fraternity, working most closely with the chapter at The University of South Florida and other chapters throughout the state. He was inducted into Delta Chi's Order of The White Carnation in 2008 at the International Convention in Las Vegas.
Survivors include his wife, Candy; his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Christopher Deem; three grandchildren, Bryan, Melissa and Matthew Deem; and one great grandchild, Arynn Reed.
Services will be conducted at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 2:30 pm. Internment will take place in Serenity Meadows Memorial Park. The family will receive friends following the service. Flowers will be appreciated. Memorial donations can be made to The Delta Chi Educational Foundation, P.O. Box 2113 Iowa City, Iowa 52244-2113.
