WINTER HAVEN - Richard L. Francis passed away on January 16th, 2013, in Winter Haven, Florida. Preceded in death by his wife, Anita (Lally) of 62 years, he suffered from progressive dementia.
He is survived by his daughter Susan (Francis) McPhail-Taylor, son in law, Dr. William F. Taylor, grandchildren Matthew (Jax.) and Adam/ Jennifer McPhail, great grandsons: Logan, Jacob (Oahu, Hi), and a large extended family.
Born in St. Augustine he entered service after high school and served on three battleships in WWII. He retired from management in the St. Augustine offices of the Florida East Coast Railroad for whom he worked for over 30 years.
An avid fisherman, golfer, he loved "his St. Augustine" where he loved till he and Anita moved to Winter Haven in 2006 to be closer to their daughter.
He attended St. Matthews and St Joseph's Catholic Churches and will be honored with a simple service with military honors at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, on Feb. 25th at 2:30pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation be made in his memory to the Florida Elks Trust fund which supports the Florida Elks Children's Therapy Services program, 24175 S.E. Hwy 450, PO Box 49-Umatilla, FL 32784.
