LAKELAND - Mitchell Joseph Palen, 88, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2013, as a result of complications of surgery.
Mr. Palen was born December 24, 1924 in Hamtramck, MI. He was an honorably discharged, combat wounded veteran of the United States Army where he served in the European Theater during World War II in the 103 d Infantry Division and received 3 Purple Hearts.
Mr. Palen is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Renate Palen; son, Walter Palen and his wife, Annalisa; daughter, Tanya Hogle and her husband, Bob; sister, Regina Zawacki; and granddaughters, Savanah Palen and Alexis Hogle.
A funeral mass will be conducted, in Mr. Palen's honor, Friday, May 17, 2013 at 11 am at the Church of the Resurrection, 3720 Old Highway 37 in Lakeland. In lieu of flowers, Mr. Palen's family requests that donations be made, in his memory, to Compassionate Care Hospice, 2393 EF Griffin Road, Bartow, FL 33830.
