LAKELAND - Dorothy E. Loeschorn, 82, of Lakeland, passed away at home on May 20, after a battle with cancer.
Dorothy was born on Staten Island, NY, lived on Long Island and in New Hampshire prior to moving to Lakeland in the late 1980s. She worked for many years as a registered nurse beginning in the OR and spent most of her career in senior living facilities, including Merriman House in New Hampshire and Carpenters Home here in Lakeland. She was an active member of St. Anthony's Church; her passions were her faith, family, reading and swimming. Dorothy was an avid Scrabble player, was a member of the Sandpiper Scrabble club, and won a bronze medal in the Polk Senior Games.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 60 years, Charles; six sons, Ed (Karen), Bob (Kim), Charlie (Lori), Paul (Lesli), Steve (Kathy) and Ken; five daughters Judy Loeschorn (Kevin Darcy), Cathy Loeschorn (Kevin Thrasher), Carol Loes-chorn (David Schena), Susan Loeschorn-Lake (Scott), and Mary Munro (George); two sisters, Frances McGrath and Kathleen Busch; 22 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Boylan, and a sister, Sister Mary Boylan.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, May 23, 2013 at 8:30 am at St. Anthony Church. Burial will follow at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. Friends are invited to the visitation on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home, 5245 US 98 N., Lakeland.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers a donation may be made to either St. Anthony Church or Good Shepherd Hospice.
