LAKELAND - Louis A. Huppenthal, 90, of Lakeland FL, passed away on July 27, 2013 from complications of Alzheimer's.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, Aug 2 at 11:00 a.m. at St Joseph's Catholic Church, Winter Haven, FL.
Louis "Lou" was born on October 25, 1922, in Calumet City, IL to the late Peter and Susanna (Halfman) Huppenthal. He was the eldest of 9 children.
Lou graduated from Springfield Township High School and in 1945, he married Mary Jule (Meyer). They lived together, with their 4 children, in Michigan City, IN before retiring to Lakeland FL. While in Michigan City he was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. In Lakeland FL, Louis and Mary Jule were parishioners at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Winter Haven. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Lou believed in giving back to the community. In Michigan City he was a member of the Kiwanis Club and Elks Lodge, as well as served on the board of Walters Hospital and the Northern Indiana Education Foundation. His involvement continued in Florida where he volunteered countless hours at Anchor House.
Louis is survived by his wife Mary Jule (Meyer) and four children.
Lou will always be remembered as a pillar in his communities and as a loving, caring husband, father and friend.
