LAKE WALES - Yvonne Olga Knierim, 81, passed away on Dec. 1, 2013 at Somers Hospice House in Sebring, Fl, due to heart failure.
She lived in Lake Wales, Fl, for the past 20 yrs. She was born in Uppsala, Sweden to Evert and Olga Sunden, on June 13, 1932; one of 7 siblings. Her education included Gothenburg Business College, Gothenburg Sweden, Broward Community College, Fort Lauderdale, Fl, and University of Miami, Coral Gables, Fl. and she received her Real Estate license. She had a loving and generous heart, and was always giving to others. She left her family in Sweden with her husband Bert Nelin and her two young sons in 1960, taking one of the last propeller planes across the Atlantic to the United States. She settled first in Natick, Massachusetts where she lived in her first house, and had her two daughters.
Rather than move back to Sweden, she discovered the warmth of Orlando, Fl and decided to move her family there in 1965. She worked as a free lance model, and taught young ladies etiquette at Patricia Stevens She was also an active member of the Orlando Chapter of the Cosmopolitan Association. In 1968 they moved to Plantation, Fl and she worked in retail management until her retirement. Yvonne loved the sun and the beach and often took her family to the West Coast and the Fl Keys. She loved taking trips to Sweden, swimming, Arts and crafts, gardening, sun bathing, playing games on the computer and spending time with her family.
She is predeceased by her father, mother, brother, Bengt ( Ulla) Sunden and sister Monica Ahlstedt.
She is survived by her brother-in-law Sune Ahlstedt, sisters Lillemor (Rune) Larsson, Hillevi (Arne) Norelius Gunilla Eriksson, Ulla-Berit Carlsson, her children, Kjell (Lo) Nelin, Leif (Maryann) Nelin, Annica Lawrence (Gary Mead) and Ingrid Nelin. Her grandchildren Sofia Lawrence, Brandon Mead, Viktoria, Sarah and Timothy Nelin.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Annica and Sofia for caring for Yvonne in her last three and half years, and also to the Good Shepherd Hospice for their support in her final days. A family Memorial will be held at a later date.
