CORBETT, III, 78
BARTOW - Alex Corbett III, 78, passed away peacefully at home March 11, 2014, of complications from Lewy Body Dementia.
He's pre-deceased by his parents, Alex Corbett, Jr. and Mildred Corbett. Born in Indianapolis, IN and raised in St. Petersburg, FL, he graduated from St. Petersburg High School and the University of Tampa, and served in the United States Navy.
Alex's career in sales reflected his love of caring for people. He enjoyed making a difference in others' lives as a sales manager with Xerox and in car sales, including Lakeland Toyota and Yerton Auto Sales.
Alex was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Lakeland, where he shared his joy and friendly face with others as an usher. His enormous personality, warmth, and generosity will be sorely missed by his family and friends. He taught his daughters to fish, sail, snow ski, and live life sharing his passion for others. He captured his wife's heart on their first date and held it steadily as her soul mate for 30 years. His sparkle and joy were evident in his love of time spent with his family and friends and his St. Francis-like passion for the care of his cats.
Alex is survived by his wife, Marcia; his daughter, Kathy Nicoll, her husband, Jeff, and their children, Alexander and Ashleigh, all of Raleigh, NC; and his daughter Angie Stricklin, her husband, David, and their children Andrew and Zachary, all of St. Augustine, FL. He's also survived by loving in-laws, nephews, nieces, grandnephews, a grandniece, amazing caregivers, and a host of long-time friends.
His friends and family will celebrate his life at a service at First United Methodist Church of Lakeland on April 5 at 3:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the building fund at First United Methodist Church of Lakeland (72 Lake Morton Drive, Lakeland FL 33802); or Good Shepherd Hospice (105 Arneson Avenue, Auburndale, FL 33823).
