LAKELAND - Charlie Bernice Hammac, 68, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2014, as a result of heart failure.
Mr. Hammac was born February 23, 1946, in Lakeland, FL and remained a lifelong resident. He was a 1964 graduate of Kathleen High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy and then returned to Lakeland. Mr. Hammac was employed by the City of Lakeland. He retired, after thirty years of service, as a supervisor at the McIntosh Power Plant. While working at McIntosh, he earned his bachelor's degree from Rollins College. Mr. Hammac was awarded the honorary title of Kentucky Colonel. After his retirement, he joined the Masons. He was a member of the Kathleen Lodge.
Mr. Hammac was preceded in death by his daughter, Allison Hammac. He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Tanya Hammac; daughters, Erika Smith and Sonya (Ryan) Wesner; sister, Virginia Blewett; grandsons, Dillon (Lyndsey) Harris and Mitchell (Rachel), Harris; granddaughter, Stacey Reas; 3 great grandchildren; and many other loving family members and devoted friends.
A graveside service will be conducted Saturday, June 14, 2014, at 10 a.m. at Lakeland Memorial Gardens, 2125 South Bartow Highway, Lakeland. In lieu of flowers, Mr. Hammac's family requests that donations be made, in his memory, to Inheritance of Hope and/or MD Anderson Melanoma Research in Houston, TX.
