Ralph Martini Obituary

Col. (Ret.) Ralph J. Martini
9/26/1931 - 7/16/2012

Col. (Ret.) Ralph J. Martini, 80 of Rocklin Calif., passed away Monday, July 16, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family.
Ralph leaves behind his loving wife of 59 years, Audrey, and his eight children: Carol Boals (Scott), Cathy Rogers (Stan), Joseph Martini, Lauretta Morrill (Daniel), Judy Martini Abshire, Leslie O'Neill (Dennis), Frank Martini (Lacye), and Ralph Martini, Jr. He also leaves behind 21 amazing grandchildren and three great-grandchildren who added much joy to his life. Ralph is survived by his younger brother, Dr.Victor Martini (Sue); sister-in-law, Dorothy; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Ralph was born September 26, 1931 in Niagara Falls N.Y., the son of Frank and Maria Martini. He was the third child and is preceded in death by his brother, Louis Martini; sister, Rose Ross; and brother-in-law, John Ross.
Ralph graduated from Bishop Duffy High School in Niagara Falls N.Y. in 1950 where he was an accomplished athlete of his high schools football, basketball and baseball teams. He was awarded a football scholarship to North Carolina State, graduating in 1954 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He was commissioned as an Officer in the U.S. Air Force and began his career in 1955. Ralph received a Masters of Science Degree of Logistics Management from the Air Force Institute of Technology, Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio. He retired after 26 years of Service as a Colonel. He immediately embarked on his second career with Aerojet Propulsion Corporation in Feb. 1982 and retired Feb.1995. He was proud to be of service to his country earning numerous decorations including: the Legion of Merit Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, Master Missleman Badge, etc. Colonel Ralph Martini was a man of both passion and compassion. He was both athletic and intellectual, an accomplished leader, a respected and much loved husband and father, and a great citizen. For him, life was really about two things: family and career, and he excelled astonishingly at both. If the measure of a man is those two things - what he achieves in life and what he leaves behind as his legacy - Colonel Martini is counted among the greatest of men. We will cherish the memories of the life we shared with our Dad and PopPop.
A visitation will be held on Friday, July 20, 2012 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Lambert Funeral Home, 400 Douglas Blvd. Roseville followed by a Rosary/Vigil at 6 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at 10am, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church Rocklin. A private burial will follow. Donations may be made in honor of Col. Ralph J. Martini to the Air Force Memorial Foundation (703) 979-0674 or Sutter Hospice Roseville (916) 797-7850.

Dear Aunt Audrey and all in the Martini Family,

Jamie and I are so sorry for your loss. We wish dearly that we could be with you in this time, but please know how much Uncle Ralph is loved and respected by all of us. I hope it brings you some solace to know that he was welcomed into Heaven with open arms by so many that love him. In my dreams I see all those in our family who are now together in Heaven sitting around a table laughing, eating, drinking wine and sharing stories... I know my father is there with his arm around his Uncle Ralph.

To my dear Uncle Ralph/Godfather,
I have loved and respected you my entire life. I have so many wonderful memories of you. When we went to Kansas to see you all...The seven of us sleeping horizontally in the station wagon (no seat belts then!). Shakees (?) pizza and the stage haha. Niagara falls when you were stationed there, my favorite time because we all got together so much, Dayton, Ohio when I came to stay with you and went to a Reds game (Joe Morgan, Johnny Bench...isn't he the one Aunt Audrey was screaming to?), and when you were so loving and a wonderful brother when my Dad became so ill. He loves you so much, and I am so glad to know you are together again. Tell him I love him, know that I love you...and look forward to holding you both when God calls me home.

When the sun rises in the east
And sets in the west,
We will still be brothers.

Spring to summer and fall to winter;
We will still be brothers.

Brothers are forever.
