ARTURO JAIME GARCIA

ARTURO JAIME GARCIA McALLEN - Arturo Jaime Garcia, 90, entered into eternal rest at his home, surrounded by his family, on September 24, 2013. He was a native of Laredo, Texas. He graduated from Raymond and Tirza Martin High School and attended Laredo Junior College, where he obtained his Associates Arts degree, graduating salutatorian of his class. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the European theater; he was awarded six Battle Stars and the Presidential Unit Citation with one oak leaf cluster. He married Laredo native Maria Antonieta Cantu in 1946 and moved to McAllen in 1953, where they raised their four daughters, Lucy (Roberto) de la Garza, Toni Williams, Gracie (Carl) Engert, and Gloria Miranda. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Antonieta, his parents, Juan and Josefa Garcia, his sister, Carmen Garcia Contreras, and his brothers Heberto and Arnoldo Garcia. He is survived by his brother, Armando Garcia, his daughters, and his grandchildren, Jason Engert, Eva Marie Engert, Max Miranda, Katarina Miranda, and J.C. Torres. He was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in McAllen. In McAllen, he was appointed Employment Interviewer and Veterans Counselor for the Texas Employment Commission. After seven years with the state, he went on to work for Pearl Brewing Company as a regional sales manager for 21 years. His last employment was with the Coors Brewery in the same position. He loved to travel and was an avid sportsman, golfing, hunting and fishing nearly all his life. The family would like to thank his caregivers Ana Laura Cruz, Elodia Garcia Justo, and Heather Lang, who cared for him so lovingly. Special thanks to Beyamar Hospice Services. There will be a visitation with the family at Kreidler Funeral Home in McAllen on Friday, September 27 between 9:00 and 11:00 am.
