HEBERTO JOSE GARZA Sr.

HEBERTO JOSE GARZA SR. LA VILLA - Heberto Jose Garza Sr., 85 went home to his heavenly father God Almighty on December 7, 2012 surrounded by his family, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, and pride in them. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Fidela Garza, his son Heberto J. Garza Jr.,(Sandra) Lake Jackson, Texas, Aminta Silva (Enrique) Edcouch, Texas, Alma Vargas (Agapito) San Juan, Texas, and Annabelle Fernandez (Carlos) San Antonio, Texas. Heberto was born on December 14, 1926 in Los Saenz, Texas to Leocadio and Petra Garza. He is preceded in death by his parents, his father / mother in law, Luz and San Juana Salazar of La Villa, Texas, his brother Everardo Garza (Marcela) and Eduardo Garza (Juana). Survivors are his brother Candelario Garza Elsa, Texas and his sister Elma Palomarez (Candido) Loveland, Colorado, and numerous nephews, nieces, brothers in law and sisters in law. Heberto was blessed with the love and joy of his 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren all of whom brought great sense of family to his life. At the age of fourteen Heberto moved to La Villa Texas with his family. He attended school in La Villa where he later worked in agriculture alongside his father and brothers. Following in his father's footsteps he became the town barber for over 30 years. Throughout his life he was a farmer, a cabinet maker, and a self made entrepeneur. At the age of 18 he was enlisted into the Army of the United States where he served as Private First Class in the 601st. Air Engineer Squadron 385th Air service Group. In April of 1945 he was inducted into active duty as a rifle marksman and was deployed to Saporo and Hokaido Japan during World War II. Heberto worked for 20 years in Elsa, TX for Texas Plastic Inc. and later at the Rio Grande Valley Sugar Growers, Santa Rosa, Texas where he retired in 1996 after 20 years of service. After retirement he dedicated himself to the business of land development. Heberto took great pride in his brotherhood as a Charter member of the Knights of Columbus serving the parish of the St. Theresa of the Infant Jesus at Edcouch and Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Villa. He was also a Life member of VFW post 7473. Visitation will begin today Monday, December 10, 2012 from 12:00 noon to 9:00 p.m. at Guerra Funeral Home in Elsa, TX. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Funeral procession will depart at 9:30 a.m. for a 10:00 a.m. funeral mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Villa, Texas. Military services will be conducted by Benito Alaniz of VFW Post 7473. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco, TX. Honoring their beloved grandfather as pallbearers will be his grandsons Enrique Silva, Gabriel Silva, Herbert Fernandez, Roberto Fernandez, Jose Sanchez, Randy Ramos and great grandsons Noe Gonzalez and Joseph Gonzalez. Honorary Pallbearers are his cherished granddaughters Nora Gonzalez, Lorena Garza, Celina Sanchez, Amanda Garza, Clarisa Ramos, Lesley Garza and Andrea Garza, great granddaughters Kayla Limas, Trinity Garza, Allyson Sanchez.
