JUAN JOSE "J.J." REYNA(1945 - 2013)

JUAN JOSE "J.J." REYNA LYFORD - Juan Jose "J.J." Reyna passed away on Monday, September 9, 2013. He was born on January 20, 1945 in La Feria to Belen and Juan Reyna. He attended Raymondville schools and received a B.S. in Criminal Justice from the University of Pan American in 1976. J.J. served with the United States Navy from 1963-1967. His duty assignments included a tour in Vietnam and shipboard duty with the 6th Fleet. After serving his military duty, he returned to Raymondville and worked as a policeman and then as a deputy for Willacy County. In 1977, J.J. achieved his dream of becoming a Border Patrol Agent. Before his appointment to the Border Patrol, J.J. was employed by the Willacy and Cameron Counties Adult Probation Department as the Adult and Juvenile Officer of Willacy County. He retired from the Border Patrol after 27 years of service and from the Naval Reserves after 20 years of service. J.J. was a dedicated father and loving husband who lived for his family. He enjoyed traveling across the country with his family, running, hunting, fishing, and watching sports. J.J. is preceded in death by his parents, Belen and Juan Reyna; sisters, Bertha Tafolla, Beatriz Delgado; and brothers, Domingo Reyna and Daniel Reyna. He is survived by his wife Maria Elena "Speedy"; daughters, Lamar Reyna, Delmar Reyna, Jamie Reyna, and Laura Reyna; grandson, Joshua Juan Reyna; sisters, Santos Martinez and Belia Villarreal; brothers, Arturo and Isidro Reyna; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation for family and friends was held on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 from 12:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M and will resume Thursday, September 12, 2013 from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 1157 W. Hidalgo Ave., Raymondville, TX 78580. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 13, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2320 Haine Dr., Harlingen, TX 78550. A funeral procession led by the Patriot Guard Riders will follow to his final place of rest in the Raymondville Memorial Park Cemetery where military graveside services will be conducted by The American Legion Post 390 and VFW Post 6719 in conjunction with the Border Patrol Color Guard. Honored to serve as pallbearers will be Danny Delgado, Wesley Kawala, Roland Lerma, Steven Villarreal, Manolo Perez, and Danny Tafolla. Honorary pallbearer will be Joshua Juan Reyna. The family would like to acknowledge the staff at the Barcelona Assisted Living in McAllen for their loving care.
