MANUEL De La Garza

MANUEL DE LA GARZA WESLACO - Manuel De La Garza, 79, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at McAllen Heart Hospital. He was born in Bishop, Texas and had been lifelong Weslaco resident. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Having served his country in the military was an accomplishment that filled him with pride and one that gave him many comrades. Manuel devoted his life working for the McManus Produce Company in Weslaco where he managed the ice plant until he retired. He enjoyed listening and dancing to musica ranchera, especially cumbias and huapangos. Manuel was a true outdoorsman. He loved fishing and hunting with his friends, brothers, and his sons. He will always be remembered for his patient and fun-filled nature and for his selfless service to his country. He spent the last few years living with his fellow veterans at Alfredo Gonzalez Texas State Veterans Home in McAllen. Manuel is survived by his 7 children: Evey Martinez (Cleo), Dora Esparza, John De La Garza, Manuel De La Garza Jr., Javier De La Garza (Virginia), Elizabeth Rebolloso (Gilberto), and Marcos De La Garza (Veronica). He is also survived by 17 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and numerous brothers and sisters. A funeral Mass will be held today, Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at 10:00 am at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Weslaco. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco. Military graveside rites will be conducted by V.F.W. Post #7473 of Elsa. Serving as pallbearers will be his 4 sons, Juan De La Garza, Manuel De La Garza Jr., Javier De La Garza and Marcos De La Garza; Marcos A. De La Garza and Gilbert Rebolloso.
