To the Roper family:
Our deepest condolences to each one of you on your overwhelming loss. George was a unique individual who embodied the perfect mixture of kindness, knowledge, cheerfulness, wisdom and firmness. His infectious gentle nature touched many lives and he will be dearly missed by all of us.
George was very active during the founding of the Rio Grande Valley Psychological Association. For several years he served as a devoted officer of the association. He was a life member of the association and towards the latter years he continued to serve on several committees of the association.
George was also a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) and as a supervisor his duty was to mentor and guide counselors during their internship. George took his duties very seriously and mentored several interns entering the counseling profession. I (Lupita) have always felt very privileged that George accepted me as one of his interns. He unselfishly imparted his knowledge, skills and techniques. As I continue to work in the profession, I frequently recall his many words of wisdom.
George also served as a mental health consultant for several youth organizations. He deeply cared for the troubled youth and for all of those who sought his services. He was always very attentive and personable with every one he met. George deeply enjoyed teaching at the university and sharing all of his knowledge, skills and adventures with his students. George touched the lives of so many and through his work he continues to touch the lives of many. He was an esteemed colleague and a dear friend who just left us too soon. He was such a ‘great guy' and we can't even begin to imagine the deep void felt by those closest to him. Our deepest sympathies to each one of you on your loss.

Norma and Jennifer, I am so sorry for your loss. GMan (as I called him) was a wonderful, kind, and wise friend to me. His humor and joy in life always made my day brighter, and his thoughtful advice often made my path smoother. GMan was a gentleman through and through, and I grieve greatly that I never got to give him a hug in person. PLEASE remember to wrap yourselves in the quilt I sent him and remember I'm sending you hugs across the ether to comfort you on the loss of this dear, sweet man!
Love to you all,
Kat, aka "Romeocat" or "that Kooky Conservative Quilt Woman" ;-)

Dear Norma and Family,
My sincere and deepest condolences to you all. When I heard of Jorge's passing I was deeply saddened as I had the blessing of knowing him on a personal level while working at Dr McCoys office. I am sure that I am not the only one to tell you, that in the short time that I got to interact with him he was a big blessing and a friend. George took it upon himself to embrace any new stuff that arrived at the office, never how back on sharing his knowledge and how to improve our practice, and always provided great insight and not to mention great humor to put a smile on our faces. I looked forward to seeing George at the office when I arrived because I knew he would either have a brilliant piece of information to share about our mental health work or a witty comment or joke that would certainly brighten up my day. I felt taken care of by him, genuinely valued, and he seemed to appreciate me as an individual even with the little time that we had known each other. I am sure that that is not surprising because that is simply who George was. Few people have the grace to bless others in such a short time. George is the type of human being we all try to emulate. I am sorry that I will not be able to be present your memorial service for George I am away with family for the holiday weekend. My prayers are with you. I pray that the peace of Christ that passes all understanding be with you all in this time of mourning.

A wonderful friend who always exhibited love, class, and kindness, even to those who made life difficult. I've never met his equal and will always treasure his friendship. George's suffering is over and he now rests in the arms of our Lord. I'll always remember him with fondness.

George is one of the best men I've ever been able to count as a friend. The loss is beyond measure, but if he could speak to me now he would say, "I love you Joe! It's going to be okay." I always said "I love you!" Right back. It's no less now that I will have to wait to hear those words again.

I knew George to be a tremendously kind human being. He was one of the original psychologists to settle in the Lower Rio Grande Valley, and I was pleased to count him as a friend and colleague.
Best wishes to George's family in this time of your grief --

I've known a lot of men but none, other than my father that held the standards that George did. While we never met face to face I consider him my best friend. May the Heavenly Father bring comfort and peace to each of you. Dallas Williams

George was a man whose life touched many over the years. In all of his suffering, I never knew him once to complain. He was an inspiration to all who knew him and rest assured that this world will not, cannot, be the same without him.

May the Lord receive him in his glory. It was such an honor to have had the opportunity to become one of his students. He was a man with great humor and with a great heart. I will always remember the tales he shared with us. I will never forget how extremely strong and how I admire him for showing up to class for us although, I could tell he was suffering greatly. Rest in peace.

I will NEVER forget George Roper. He was a friend, a man of character, a man of vision, but above all else, he was a friend!
