Harold Curl Obituary

HAROLD IRVIN CURL

FREDERICKSBURG, TX - Harold Irvin Curl, 86 of Fredericksburg, died Friday, July 22, 2011. He was born in Wellman, IA, the son of Irvin Curl and Ethel Ayers Curl. He and his wife, the former Mildred Hatfield ,were married nearly 50 years at the time of her death in 1997.
After growing up in Iowa City, IA, he joined the U.S. Army shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He served in the Pacific Theater, earning a number of awards and citations for his service. After the war, he moved to the Rio Grande Valley where he owned a citrus grove and Curl's Farm Service. He served on the Sharyland Independent School District school board for 17 years. The former Sharyland superintendent B.L. Gray said "I would like to enumerate some of the things that were done for the Sharyland Schools while you were serving and which you can take a lot of the credit." These include a new gym and field house, new high school and new football stadium, air conditioning of all classrooms, and much more. "I feel that you did more than your fair share of all these things. Your personal contributions of time, machinery, materials, work and advice were extremely valuable to me."
In 1977, he moved to Fredericksburg and bought a ranch. He was active in his cattle operation for over 30 years.
Harold is survived by three sons, David (Cathy) Curl of Fredericksburg, John (Teddie) Curl of Boerne, Michael (Leslie)Curl of Kyle; daughter Joan Roller of Fredericksburg; 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Frances Bull and Virginia Anderson; and one brother, Dennis Curl.
