MARIAELENA SILVA CHAMPION Obituary
MARIAELENA SILVA CHAMPION Mariaelena Silva Champion, 75, our beloved wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, entered the kingdom of her Lord on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at her residence in McAllen, Texas. Mariaelena was born on July 15, 1937 in Mission, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parent's Antonio Silva and Rosalina Farias Silva, her sister, Rosalinda Silva Flores, and brother, Antonio G. Silva. Mariaelena is survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert G. Champion; three children, Robert R. Champion and wife Rosemarie from Dallas, Annette Champion Aleman and husband Albert T. from San Antonio, Richard A. Champion and wife Kimberly from McAllen; eight grandchildren, Christina Elizabeth Aleman, Alexandria Nichole Aleman, Robert Thomas Champion, Lauren Marie Champion, Aaron Thomas Aleman, Sierra Elena Champion, Alec George Champion, Angelina Marie Champion; brothers Richard Silva, Ruben D. Silva, and sister Hilda Silva Escobar. Mariaelena graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Pan American University and received her Masters of Arts in Administration at Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas in 1974. She devoted her life to educating children for 31 years. She began her teaching career in Rio Hondo, Texas teaching elementary school and continued her career teaching in Harlingen, Mission, Presidio, Kingsville, and completed her career as an Elementary School Principal at David Crockett Elementary School in McAllen, Texas. Afterwards, she taught at Pan American University in Edinburg, Texas and encouraged other young adults to pursue a life in education. After retirement, Mariaelena continued her commitment and dedication to education by being a Board Member of the South Texas Independent School District for 12 years. She had a passion for traveling and traveled to many different countries around the world. Mariaelena's greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. She had a passion for music and had an indescribable feeling for writing especially poetry and was a published author. Mariaelena was a Sunday school teacher and had dedicated her life to trying to help other people and service her Lord. She was lifelong member of the El Mesias United Methodist Church and was instrumental in organizing the church's 100th year celebration. Visitation will begin at 4:00 with a prayer service at 6:00 PM Sunday, December 2, 2012 at El Mesias United Methodist Church, 209 E. 6th St., Mission, Texas. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 3, 2012 at 10:00 AM at El Mesias United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Valley Memorial Garden Cemetery, 3611 N. Taylor Rd., McAllen, Texas. Champion, Tony Garza, Joe Silva with honorary pallbearers Aaron T. Aleman and Alec. G. Champion.
