NICOLAS ALVAREZ
LA GLORIA/MCALLEN - Nicolas Alvarez, beloved husband, step-father, grandfather, son, brother and friend to all passed from this world into the glorious eternity of heaven to be with his Lord and savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, August 18, 2008, at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen, Texas. He is finally home, totally whole and all heaven rejoices to have him.
Nicolas, 58, was born November 19, 1949, in Rio Grande City, Texas to Domingo and Dominga Alvarez of the Diamond O Ranch in La Gloria, Texas. He attended and graduated from San Isidro Independent School District at San Isidro, Texas and Del Mar Tech College in Corpus Christi, Texas. He retired from the Texas Department of Agriculture after more than 26 years of service. Nick had also been employed by the Diamond O Ranch in his early years. After retirement, he was employed part-time with Bolt Security Services of Edinburg, Texas.
Nicolas was married to Alma Vicky for 22 years and resided in McAllen, Texas. He loved being with all his family, especially his granddaughters, Kathlyn and Sydney Jones. Nicolas greatly enjoyed dove and deer hunting, and cattle ranching. He was liked and respected by all who were fortunate to have known him. Nick will be greatly missed by all his friends and family.
Nicolas is preceded in death by his father, Domingo Alvarez.
He is survived by his wife, Alma Vicky; his step-son, Travis Jones (Nellie); his grand-daughters, Kathlyn and Sydney Jones; his mother, Dominga Alvarez; his brother, Jorge Luis Alvarez (Pety); his sister, Norma Alvarez Meza; his nephews, Ramon Alvarez and Jorge Luis Alvarez, Jr. (Claudia); his nieces, Thelma Meza Crouch (Aaron), Sara Mae Alvarez and many other family members and friends.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Rene Sosa, Cesar Gonzalez, Paul Quintero, Dr. Ruben Aleman, Fred Renk and Aristeo C. Klein. Honorary pallbearers are Mario Duran, Noel Garcia, and Hector Mirelez.
Visitation will be held today, August 20, 2008, from 1 until 9 p.m. with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. the same evening. Visitation will resume Thursday, August 21, 2008, at 8 until 9:30 a.m. at which time the funeral procession will depart for a 10 a.m. funeral Mass to be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Rio Grande City, Texas. Interment to follow at Piloncillo Ranch in the Alvarez Family Cemetery.
