OFELIA G. GARZA Obituary
OFELIA G. GARZA RIO GRANDE CITY - Ofelia G. Garza, 83, of Rio Grande City, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Starr County Memorial Hospital. Ofelia was born in Rio Grande City to the late Ignacio Gonzalez from La Sandia Ranch and the late Francisca Salinas Gonzalez from Las Escobas Ranch on January 3, 1930. She was a graduate of Rio Grande City High School and Pan American College in Edinburg. She was married to Arturo Garza for over sixty years, from September 21, 1946 until his death in 2007. She worked as a school teacher for 38 years with the Rio Grande City CISD. Ofelia was also an owner of La Gaviota Ranch, land that has been in her family for over 6 generations. Ofelia is survived by her two sons, Jose Arturo Garza of La Gaviota Ranch and Javier Garza of Rio Grande City; her sisters Oralia G. Lopez of Rio Grande City and Ogla G. Marks of Brownsville. She is also survived by her grandchildren Joe A. Garza of McAllen, Larry Garza of Austin, Abram Garza of Sunnyside, Washington, D'Anissa Garza of McAllen, Javier Garza, Jr. of McAllen and Aaron Garza of McAllen along with three great-grandchildren, John Lawrence Garza, Matthew Garza and Cassandra Garza, all of McAllen. Visitation was held at Hernandez Funeral Home located at 701 East Eisenhower in Rio Grande City on Monday, March 18, 2013 from 1:00pm to 6:30pm followed by a rosary at 7:00pm. Funeral services will be held today, March 19, 2013, at 10 AM at Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will follow at Rio Grande City Cemetery. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Rolando Guerrero and the staff at Starr County Memorial Hospital for their care and compassion.
