DECORDOVA - Thomas Richard Hansen, 83, passed away Sunday, November 1, 2009, in Temple, Texas.
Funeral: 1:00 p.m. Thursday at First Christian Church in Granbury. Entombment: 3:30 p.m. Thurday at Greenwood Mausoleum in Fort Worth. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury, Texas, and 12 to 1 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, National Headquarters, 6350 North Andrews Ave., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309-2130.
Mr. Hansen was born Oct. 17, 1926, in Mission, Texas, to Richard M. Hansen and Jewell Dillard Hansen. He married Barbara Baker, Apr. 5, 1947, in McAllen, Texas. He was a 1951 graduate of Texas Christian University with a BS in physical education. Mr. Hansen served with the U.S. Merchant Marines and the 82nd Airborne Division. After his military service he taught in the Fort Worth School District. In 1953, he moved to Odessa and began his career in the oil field service sector. He started the Tom Hansen Company in 1958 in Odessa and operated the company until he sold it in 1988. The Hansen's lived in Fort Worth, Stephenville, Odessa and Oklahoma City until retiring in DeCordova 15 years ago. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Granbury.
His priorities in life were his belief in God, his love for family, his love for golf and his charity work which are too numerous to list individually.
Mr. Hansen was an individual who touched many lives with his love, kindness, generosity and will be tremendously missed by all who had met him. He was the leading role model for his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sally Sue Moore of Fort Worth; granddaughter, Mimi Leigh Blumberg.
Survivors: Wife, Barbara Hansen of DeCordova; daughter, Laura Thurston and husband, Jimmy, of Stephenville; sons, Scott Hansen of Ardmore, Okla., Gary B. Hansen of Whitney; grandchildren, Kenneth George Moore, Jr., of Dallas, Melissa Howell and husband, Travis, of Fort Worth, Laurie Cline and husband, Willy, of Granbury, David Thomas Blumberg of Stephenville, Sean Hansen and wife, Kandis, of Stephenville, Dustin Hansen of Stephenville, Jennifer Carpenter and husband, Carrick, of Boston, Mass., Katie Hansen of Fort Worth; eight great grandchildren; sister, Emily Sue Hansen of Mission, Texas.
Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury is in charge of arrangements.
