CONSTANCE L'DELL BENNETT HARDWICKE Dell, also known as Mama Dell, passed away in her home on Monday, July 15, 2013. She was born on March 31, 1929, and raised in Alice, Texas. After her father passed away in 1942, the family moved to Corpus Christi, Texas where she enjoyed an active social life. One of her best friends lived in a house on the street behind her and that friend had a brother named Billy. They began dating and fell in love, marrying June 5, 1948 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Dell attended Mount Vernon College, in Washington D.C., the University of Texas in Austin, and Pan American University in Edinburg. She taught first grade for many years. Dell loved to make her home beautiful with flowers and home decor. She became an accomplished ceramic painter. She also enjoyed tennis, was a member of the Racket Club and Slipper Club, taught Sunday School, participated in the Walk to Emmaus, sponsored youth group parties, hosted many parties for wedding and baby showers, birthday, graduations and her sororities, PEO and Theta. She loved to travel and to dance. Dell loved dressing "to the nines" and shopping! Dell was an encouraging and loving person with a great laugh. She was optimistic about life, even when her health began to fail. She loved being with family and loved living at Waterwalk. Dell was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Bill, her parents, Connie Bennett Presnall, her father, James E. Bennett, her son, Charlie, and her step-father, Homer Presnall. She is survived by her son Jim (Michelle) and children Connie Brown (Adam) and their children (Josiah and Bella), son Scott (Meagan) and Thomas. Dell is also survived by her son Bruce (Janna) and children Emily, Charlotte, Joy Polinard (Josh), Carolynn (son Asa), Austin, Christian and Rebecca. She is also survived by her daughter Sally Brace (Rob) and children Jamie, Lisa Box (Damon) and their children (Maddie and Eli) and Tatum. Dell is also survived by her sister, Jamee Hardwicke, her step-brothers, Homer Presnall and Charles Presnall, her sister-in-law, Mary Helen Korbelik, her brother-in-law, Larry Hardwicke, by numerous nieces and nephews, by her caregivers Rosie Pequeno, Julie Gomez and Mary Lou Hernandez, and many friends. Her public memorial service will be held at The First Presbyterian Church of McAllen on Monday, August 5 at 3 p.m. with a separate, private family burial.
