1950 - 2014 Obituary Condolences Flowers
SYLVIA HINOJOSA CARLIN Sylvia Hinojosa Carlin, 63, was called to be with God on March 9, 2014, after her courageous 3 year battle with cancer. She was born November 6, 1950, the daughter of Baldomero and Anita Hinojosa. At a young age, it was obvious, that Sylvia was born with a calling to serve the Lord. Sylvia's love of song led her to be active in the San Martin De Porres choir and with her sisters alongside she once debuted in a televised Easter special. Her devotion to the Catholic faith evolved throughout her youth and coupled with her affection for children she taught her first CCD classes at the age of 17 and continued for 29 years. After graduating Weslaco High School she attended Pan American University, where she met the love of her life Carlos Carlin of Round Rock, TX. On June 2, 1973 Carlos and Sylvia entered Holy matrimony at San Martin De Porres. A year after their marriage they started their family which consisted of 4 boys, Juan Carlos, Michael Anthony, Gabriel Lee, and Joseph David Carlin. Carlos and Sylvia made a vow and commitment to raise their children with love and the same catholic faith their parents had instilled in them. As the Queen and foundation of a family of men, Sylvia was continually the stern yet supportive spouse and mother in all their endeavors. On a routine day, Sylvia could be seen rushing her boys to school, from school, to practices, to games, to CCD classes all with a proud smile on her face and an encouraging cheer in her voice…for her to miss a game, a meet, or an event would be absolutely unheard of. 'Her boys were her world.' Sylvia's undying love for children grew beyond her boys when she became a grandmother to 2 grandsons and 2 granddaughters. Time spent with them, were moments of joy, laughter, and fulfillment. The presence of her grandchildren served as a natural remedy to offset the pain and discomfort caused by her cancer. Sylvia was a fulltime employee of Weslaco Independent school District for 35 years. Throughout her tenure she made lifelong friendships and took on an instrumental role in the lives of countless children. Always bringing her positive faith and supportive attitude made her someone you wanted to be around. Sylvia embodied the true meaning of a daughter, sister, friend, wife, Tia, mother, and grandmother. Rightfully so, Sylvia was honored and gratefully accepted the role and responsibility of being Madrina over 40 times to nephews, nieces, and the children of close friends. "The true measure of life is how long you exist after you're gone. You will live forever in many, Forever in us…" Death smiles at us all…Mom, with faith as your shield, you smiled back to the end!!! Sylvia is preceded in death by her father, Baldomero Hinojosa of Weslaco, TX and is survived by her husband, Carlos Carlin of Weslaco, TX; 4 sons, Juan Carlos Carlin (Erica) of Mission, TX, Michael Anthony Carlin (Monica) of Weslaco, TX, Gabriel Lee Carlin of San Antonio, TX, Joseph David Carlin of Weslaco, TX; her mother, Anita Hinojosa of Weslaco, TX; 2 brothers, Roel Hinojosa (Elsa) of McAllen, TX, Ricardo Hinojosa (Rosa) of Weslaco, TX; 3 sisters, Rosalinda Gonzalez (Luis), Cynthia Cazares, both of Weslaco, TX & Thelma Rodriguez (Robert) of Houston, TX.
