1930 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
BETTYE JOYCE HANCOCK Bettye Joyce Hancock went to be with the Lord and her husband Wesley Hancock on Sunday June 1, 2014 at the age of 84. She was at home with her family when she lost a long-fought battle with lung disease. Bettye was born March 20, 1930 in East Texas and was the only child to Jessie and Rebecca Allen. Due to Frequent moves Bettye attended multiple schools but was able to graduate from high school by the age of 16. Bettye attended East Texas Jr. College and received her associated degree when she turned 18. Bettye met the love of her life, Wesley, at a community swimming pool in Dallas. Wes courted her for six months and they married on February 13, 1949. They started their family then moved to the valley in 1955. Bettye and Wes raised their children in San Juan and retired to Alamo in 1987. Bettye had a passion for teaching, while raising her children she started her teaching career at the McAllen School of Business, where she worked alongside her best friend Betty Martin. Then Bettye was teaching for numerous years at South Texas Vo-Tec, where she retired in 2000. Bettye moved to Harlingen in 2007 to be closer to her children. Bettye was an active member of the People's Community Church in San Juan, and The Order of the Eastern Star Betty will be especially remembered for her involvement in raising all four of her children. Bettye and Wes attended every PSJA football game sitting on the fifty yard line whistling, helped endlessly with 4-H projects such as chickens and lambs while raising numerous horses, dogs and cats in the back yard. Everyone knew the Hancock house was a fun filled, fun loving place to be and anyone could count on Bettye and Wes to always lend a helping hand.
