SOCORRO GUERRA MISSION - Socorro Guerra, 87, passed away Tuesday June 24, 2014 at McAllen Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Guerra was born on November 17, 1926 to Arturo and Marta Peña in Los Aldamas, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. She was welcomed into heaven by her parents, her loving husband Jesus Guerra, oldest son Jose Oscar Guerra, grandson Jorge Arturo Guerra, and sister Eglantina Peña. Mrs. Guerra will be greatly missed by her two sons, Jesus Guerra Jr. and Jorge (Janie) Guerra, and two daughters, Elsa Guerra and Lucy (Marcelo) Gonzalez. She will also be missed by her beloved grandsons, Jesus (Lizette) Guerra III, Juan Francisco Guerra, and Eric (Linda) Fong, and 4 great-grandchildren whom she adored, Jesse Josiah Guerra, Leah Lisette Guerra, Katelyn Fong, and Allison Fong. She is also survived by one sister Flora Aleman and four brothers, Arturo Peña, Andres Peña, Audelio Peña, and Artemio Peña. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. "Mama Socorro" and Jesus were happily married for 65 years. She raised her children with a firm but loving hand. She was a faithful Catholic who attended church regularly and prayed the rosary daily. "Mama Socorro" had a passion for playing bingo and the slot machines. Her beautiful personality and kind heart will be missed by all her family. She kept her quick wit and sense of humor to the very end. "Mama Socorro" will forever live in our hearts. Visitation for Mrs. Guerra will be from 2pm to 9 pm on Friday June 27, 2014, with a rosary recited at 7 pm at Virgil Wilson Mortuary in Mission, TX. Funeral mass will be at 10 am Saturday June 28, 2014 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Mission, Texas. Interment will follow to Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Mission, Texas. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Virgil Wilson Mortuary of Mission, Texas.
