GLENN GARRETT JOHNSON, M.D.|
Glenn Garrett Johnson, M.D., 54, of Spicewood, TX, departed this life Monday, March 16, 2009 at his home after a valiant battle with liver cancer. He was the eldest son of Bobbie Garrett and Peggy Turner Johnson of Bedford, VA and grandchild of the late Robert Garrett and Lillian Nance Johnson and W. Fred and Lucille Holdren Turner.
Glenn was born August 30, 1954 in Lynchburg, VA. He was a 1972 graduate of Liberty High School in Bedford, VA, received his Bachelor of Science degree from the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, VA, and his doctorate from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, VA. He then completed his residency and internship at the University of Texas, Houston Health Science Center. Glenn began his career with the State of Texas Correction System in 1981, and attained the position of Director of Health Services. After leaving the Correction System, Glenn became a consultant and surveyor for the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC). Here, in recognition of his expertise in all facets of correctional health, Glenn was selected to assist in the development and implementation of standards for the NCCHC. In the private sector, Glenn served as the Medical Director of Health Services for both GEO Group and Maxor National Pharmacy Service Corporation.
Glenn was a gifted pianist, gardener, and ardent world traveler. His love for foreign excursions began as a college student when he backpacked across England and Germany. He also became an accomplished pilot in his later years. Glenn will be forever remembered for his keen intellect, benevolent spirit, and insatiable energy to live life to its fullest.
In addition to his parents, Glenn is survived by his beloved partner, Dr. Jose Escudero of Mission, TX and Jose's family in Mexico, Florida, New York, and California; Glenn's Brother and Sister-in-law, Bill and Clare Johnson of Brenham, TX; Brother and Sister-in-law, Dr. Steven R. and Penny Johnson of Springfield, VA; Nephew, Andrew Johnson of Springfield, VA; paternal Aunt, Ada J. Woodford of Bedford, VA; maternal Aunt and Uncle, Mary Fred and Richard Tucker of Urbanna, VA; maternal Uncle, Paul Turner of Dalesville, VA; and maternal Great Aunt, Katherine Turner of Richmond, VA. He will be dearly missed.
A memorial service will be held at Mt. Olivet Southern Baptist Church in Bedford, VA at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2009, with the Rev. Wayne Murphy officiating. There will also be a memorial held on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 4 p.m. at 2116 Sabinal Street in Mission, Texas 78572, the residence of Dr. Jose Escudero.
