MARIA ELIA GONZALEZ Bless the Lord, my soul, all my being, bless his holy name! –Psalm 103 Maria Elia Gonzalez, 85, of Rio Grande City, Texas went to be with the Lord on January 21, 2013. She was born on July 24, 1927 in La Grulla, Texas. She was married to Abel N. Gonzalez, and together they had five children. She was preceded in death by her husband Abel N. Gonzalez, son Abel N. Gonzalez Jr., her brother Jesus Alberto Solis, and her grand-daughter Marta G. Gonzalez. She is survived by her children, Ana Maria Gonzalez, Humberto C. Gonzalez (Cynthia), Enrique E. Gonzalez (Gina), Melly Gonzalez Salinas (Amaro), her daughter in law Graciela, her siblings, Silvina Solis Hinojosa, Maria Nela Solis Sanchez, Juan Solis Jr. (Pita), and Dolores Solis Gomez, (Paco), her sister-in-law Amanda Solis. She was a beloved mother, grandmother of twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She served in many capacities throughout our community. She was a charter member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Serra Club, Woodman of the World, Sacred Heart Organization, Vela Perpetua and Catholic Mothers Club. Maria Elia was a pioneer and an instrument the Lord used years ago to assemble the community of Sacred Heart Mission in Los Garcias in Rio Grande City. Years of catechesis, rosaries, and masses in her home during those years resulted in forming a wonderful community of believers that now attend Sacred Heart Mission, part of Immaculate Conception Church. Her faith in God was of primary importance in her life and she shared her faith with her family and friends at every opportunity. Her family was a source of great joy to her. She was much loved and will be greatly missed by every member of her family and her many friends. The viewing will continue at Sanchez Funeral Home in Rio Grande City, Texas, today, Wednesday, January 23, 2013 from 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Funeral Mass services will be held at Immaculate Conception Church of Rio Grande City, Texas at 4:00 P.M. Interment will follow at Rio Grande City Cemetery.
