DON H. YANCY Obituary
DON H. YANCY Don H. Yancy, long-time local leader and businessman, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, March 28th, 2013 at his home in McAllen at the age of 86, surrounded by his loving family. Don was born in Texas, the second of three children of Hobson and Vennie Yancy. While attending the University of Texas at Austin, where he was a member of ATO Fraternity, Don was recruited in 1945 to join the United States Army Air Force, where he served honorably with the Occupation Forces in Germany during World War II. Shortly after his return to McAllen, where his family had moved, Don married his beloved wife, Peggy, in 1947 and began work in the family business, becoming a civic leader and charter member of Calvary Baptist Church. His diverse capabilities were generously shared to the benefit of his family, the growth of the McAllen community, and the spread of the Christian gospel. His life was blessed by 65 years of marriage to his adoring wife, and God's gift of their four wonderful children, plus eleven precious grandchildren. Don's reputation as an honest, hard-working, Christian husband, father and grandfather was well known in the community and beyond. He served as a leader in his church, chairman of the McAllen Community Development Council, and Lions' Club President. Gardening, painting, piano, birding, and laughter were his favored hobbies, in addition to the pleasure of his treasured family and friends.
