JOSE R. FLORES Obituary
JOSE R. FLORES Jose R. Flores died June 13, 2013 at McAllen Medical Center. Jose R. Flores landed on Utah beach Normandy June 10th, 1944. He was in the 9th Infantry Division. After crossing the Rhine River in France he was wounded and transferred to Paris where he recuperated and then placed in Patton's 10th Armored Division. He fought in France, Italy, Poland, Czechoslavakia and Germany. He fought all the way to Berlin. He did three tours of battle in the European Theater of WWII. He was awarded a Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars. He helped liberate five concentration camps: Buchenwald, Dacau, Dora, Mittelbau, Flossenburg and Mathausen. He prayed he would make it home every day. Most of the people he went there with did not. He returned home and married his Sweetheart, and was married for 66 years. They raised five children, four daughters and one son. He is survived by his wife, Elida R. Flores, 5 children, Irma (Homer) Garcia, Evangelina (Jose) Valdez, Gracie (Adan) Salinas, Elva (Sam) Lopez and Elias Flores. He was a Grandfather to 12 grandchildren and Great Grandfather to 10. He was respected, admired, loved and will be missed until seen again. Pslam 62:1 Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. Visitation was held Friday June 14, 2013 from 1:00pm to 9:00 at Virgil Wilson Memorial Chapel with a Rosary recited at 7:00pm. Funeral Service will be today Saturday June 15, 2013 at 10:30am at Virgil Wilson Memorial Chapel of Mission with full Military Honors to be conducted by the VFW Post 8788 from McAllen, Texas.
