DAVID HADDON HOCKEMA EDINBURG - David Haddon Hockema passed away July 1, 2013 at University Hospital in San Antonio, where he was awaiting a lung transplant. He was born on November 18, 1947 in Temple, Texas. David grew up in Kilgore, Texas where he attended Kilgore High School. David was a Division One college athlete at the University of Arizona, before transferring to the University of Texas-Plan II, where he received his BA in political science. In 1973, he received his doctor of jurisprudence from the University of Texas School of Law. The rest is history. A legend of a lawyer was born. David was licensed for over 40 years, and continued to work on cases while at the hospital awaiting transplant. He loved the practice of law, and was proud to tell the big city lawyers he was from Hidalgo County. Through the years, he represented clients from every walk of life. He was happiest when trying a law suit. He proved to many a big city lawyer that he truly was "David" and that Goliath would fall! He loved helping the little guy. He was board certified in Civil trial law and personal injury law. He was a member of the prestigious International Trial Lawyer's Academy, American Board of Trial Advocates, and was chosen as a "Texas Super Lawyer" for over a decade. David loved the outdoors, and especially fishing. Many of his happiest moments were spent on the water with friends. Over the last eight years, he enjoyed traveling to Europe and South America with his wife Nora. He was preceded in death by his parents Max Westley Hockema and Sarah Bedwell Hockema, and his only sibling, Mark Hockema. He was also predeceased by his first wife, Yvonne Hockema and daughter Anne-Elise Hockema.
