JOSE JAIME TORRES VASQUEZ Obituary
JOSE JAIME TORRES VASQUEZ Mr. Jose Jaime Torres Vasquez died peacefully on Sunday July 21, 2013, surrounded by family and friends in McAllen, Texas. Mr. Torres was born on September 21, 1928 to Arturo and Fedora Torres in Mercedes, Texas. He is survived by his wife Sylvia, his daughters Marta Carbajal, Pascal Guash (Jose Luis) Isabel Torres, Dominique Watts (Sammy) and Alejandra Nuno (Carlos). He is also survived by two sons, Sergio Torres and Jaime Arturo Torres. He was preceded in death by his brother Ruben and is survived by his brother Arturo (Tito) Torres and sister Xenia Torres Alger. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, extended family and friends. Jose Jaime grew up and received his early education in McAllen, TX. After graduating from McAllen High School he attended Texas A&M and graduated in 1944 with a degree in Business Administration. He went to work for an oil company and was later called to military service in the U. S. Army and posted to Paris France for four years. While there he traveled throughout Europe where he met and married Josiane Becker and returned to McAllen, TX. He went to work for his aunt and uncle, Joe and Argentina Ortega in Reynosa to administrate and manage their two well know and successful restaurants Joe's Place and La Cucaracha. He joined and later became President of Gamma Production Corporation that edited and produced cartoons for the international market which included Hanna-Barbara and Warner Brothers. He also produced cartoon characters for General Mills Food Corporation for their breakfast cereals such as Lucky Charms, Frankenberry and Count Chocula. The Torres-Alger family wishes to thank the many doctors, nurses and care givers for their professional thoughtfulness and care. In lieu of flowers the family wishes donations to be made to the Veteran's Home of Hidalgo County, Comfort House Hospice (617 Dallas, McAllen, TX) and the Children's Cancer & Hematology Clinic (101 W. Expressway 83, McAllen, TX).
