RICHARD "RIC" BROWN Obituary
RICHARD "RIC" BROWN MISSION - Funeral services are scheduled next Tuesday, Aug. 13, for Mission businessman Richard "Ric" Brown, 63, who passed away at his home in Mission on Wednesday, Aug. 7. Visitation will be held Monday, Aug. 12, from 1 to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at the Ric Brown Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mission. The service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the chapel, followed by interment at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Mission. Rev. Ed Gilpin, retired pastor of First Baptist Church in Mission, and Rev. Roy Snipes, OMI, of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission will co-officiate for the service. Pallbearers include Richard Martinez, Ruben Femat, Bruce Edwards, Bill Filut, John Fulwiller and Ralph Morgan. "Ric" was born in Buda, Tex. on Feb. 5, 1950, to Vernon and Juanita Brown. He began his career as a funeral director in the Valley with Virgil Wilson Mortuary in McAllen in 1979 and moved to Mission in 1984. He and his wife, Kathy, started Ric Brown Family Funeral Home in 1999. Recipient of the Spirit of Mission Award in 1996 for his longtime service to the community, he was a past member of the Mission CISD school board and the Texas Citrus Fiesta board. He served as a past president of the South Texas Funeral Directors Association, Texas Funeral Directors Association, Mission Chamber of Commerce, Bryan Elementary PTO and Leadership Mission. He had been a member of First Baptist Church Mission since 1984. For years Brown would make floats for the Citrus Parade, always encouraging the younger generations to get involved. When he first moved to the Valley, he started a clowning business that he loved, and, for several years, was known as "Ric Brown, the Town Clown." His son, Tim Brown, noted that his father "…dedicated his life to his family and community. He served as a great example of what a person does when they love their community. He was always willing to help anyone in need, and instilled this quality in his family and employees at the funeral home." The family expressed appreciation to the community for always supporting and loving him throughout the years. Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Kathy Brown; daughter, Donna Brown; son, Timothy (Barbara) Brown; grandchildren, Crystal Horsley, Samuel Brown, Sadie Brown, Joe Albert Hernandez, Aisha (Bryan) Castillo, April Hernandez and Nevaeh Gomez; sisters, Donna Plummer and Sandra Brown; brothers, Jack Morgan, Bill Brown, Bobby Brown, David Brown and Tony Brown; and mother-in-law, Mary Morgan. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Richard "Little Ric" Brown Jr.; and grandchildren, James Richard Horsley and Skylar Sunshine Brown. We would like to extend a very special thank you to all the people who have cared for Ric over the years, especially Dr. Johnson, Legacy Hospice and all their staff. Services are under the direction of Ric Brown Family Funeral Home in Mission. Sign guest book at www.themonitor.com/obituaries
