RAUL A. GARCIA PHARR - Raul A. Garcia, 75, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at McAllen Medical Center. Raul was born on November 8, 1937 in Pharr, Texas to Mr. and Mrs. Antonio C. Garcia Sr. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosario Garcia; Parents Antonio C. Garcia Sr. and Manuela A. Garcia and a brother Antonio Garcia Jr. He is survived by his children, David L. (Pat) Garcia of McAllen, TX., Javier Jaime Garcia of Humble, TX., and Leticia Soto of Pharr, TX.; grandchildren, Jenna Garcia, Analise Garcia, Marc Anthony Soto and Samantha Garcia. He is also survived by his siblings, Virginia Fernandez of Mercedes, TX., Rachel Flores of Houston, TX., Oralia Hinojosa of El Paso, TX., and Noe Garcia of San Juan, TX. Raul (Tute as he was known to his close friends and family) joined the Unites States Marine Corps after high school on June 5, 1957. He proudly served across the Pacific and Indonesia until his honorable discharge on June 6, 1960. Raul worked for the City of Pharr for 27 years where he served in various capacities until retirement in October 1993 as Director of Sanitation. He also served the community as the first Hispanic Volunteer Fireman for the Pharr Fire Department beginning in June 1971 where he had risen to the rank of Assistant Fire Chief for numerous years.] Visitation will be held today, Sunday, September 1, 2013 from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm with a rosary to be held at 7:00 pm at Skinner-Silva Funeral Home in Pharr. Funeral service will be held on Monday, September 2, 2013 at Skinner-Silva Funeral Home in Pharr at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Guadalupe Cemetery in Pharr, where he will be buried with Fireman Honors, provided by the City of Pharr and Military Honors provided by the VFW Post 8788.
