PEDRO RODRIGUEZ MERCEDES/WESLACO - Pedro Rodriguez, 90, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2013 at his residence in Weslaco, TX. He was born June 23, 1929 in Mercedes, TX son of Santiago Rodriguez & Esperanza Rodriguez. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Estella R. Glister and his step-daughter Lucia Castillo. He is survived by his wife Olga Rodriguez; sons: Pedro, Mario, Santiago, Lino, Martin, Pablo and Armando Rodriguez. His daughters: Maria Guadalupe R. Villarreal, Angelica R. Luera, Similia Rodriguez, Esperanza R. Bustos and Esperanza Rodriguez. His step-children: Felipe, Olga, Jesse, Jose and Lupe Castillo. His brother: Martin Rodriguez; his sisters: San Juanita Gomez and Delia Armendariz. He is also survived by 37 Grandchildren, 41 Great-Grandchildren, 7 Great-Great-Grandchildren and 2 Great-Great-Great-Grandchildren. Mr. Rodriguez served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and WWII. He belonged to Company K 35th Infantry. He held the rank of Staff Sgt. He obtained the Combat Infantryman Badge. Along with Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Ribbon and 4 Overseas Service Bars. In 1960 Mr. Rodriguez started his own bakery which he named Pete's Bakery in Weslaco, TX. In the 1980's he became the head baker of HEB and became a trainer to other employees and in 1999 he retired. On June 29, 2013 he celebrated his 90th Birthday with his family. A celebration that they were all excited to celebrate with him. This is a celebration that his family will always have as memories and close to their heart. Mr. Rodriguez was proud to be a Veteran!! Serving as pallbearers will be Pete Rodriguez Jr., Pete Rodriguez III, Robert Rodriguez, Roy Rodriguez, Pablo Rodriguez, Ramiro Bustos Jr., Johnathan Gonzalez and Adrian Gonzalez. Visitation will be held today Wednesday, September 4, 2013 from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a prayer service at 5 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. and a rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be Thursday, September 5, 2013 at 10 a.m. at San Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Weslaco.
