FRANCISCO G. GONZALEZ Edcouch, TX – Francisco G. Gonzalez, 87, passed away to be with the Lord on Friday, December 20, 2013 at his residence. He was born December 16, 1926 in Mercedes, TX to Ramon & Dolores Gonzalez. He was a WWII Army veteran & had retired with Texas Department of Transportation after 37 years of service. When he joined the Army in 1946 he was in the 1st squadron 9th bomb group of the 313th bomb wing. He is preceded in death by his parents; 1 sister, Linda Zapata; 2 brothers, Leonel Gonzalez & Ramon Gonzalez. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Cristela Gonzalez of Edcouch, TX; 3 sons, Fred Gonzalez of Weslaco, TX, Noe Gonzalez of Austin, TX & Frank Gonzalez, Jr. of San Antonio, TX; 4 daughters, Rosalinda Castillo of Austin, TX, Magda Garza of Edinburg, TX, Teresa Ambriz of Weslaco, TX & Maricela Gonzalez of Sharyland, TX; 1 sister, Ambrosia Montalvo of Edcouch, TX. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren & 2 grand dogs. Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. today, Sunday, December 22, 2013 at Guerra Funeral Home of Weslaco – Chapel of The Heavens with a 7:00 p.m. rosary. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 23, 2013 at St. Theresa Catholic Church. Celebrant will be Rev. Ernesto Magallon. Interment will follow at Val Verde Memorial Gardens with military graveside services under the auspices of Sgt. Benito Alaniz VFW Post 7473. Pallbearers will be Fred Gonzalez, Jr., Noe Gonzalez, Frank Gonzalez, Jr., Homero Garza, Orlando Ambriz & Freddy Jonathon Gonzalez. Honorary pallbearer will be Fred Gonzalez.
