LEOPOLDO RAMIREZ MISSION - Leopoldo Ramirez, 62, passed away Friday, March 7, 2014 at McAllen Medical Center. Leopoldo was born September 28, 1951 in Penitas, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father, Leonel Ramirez Sr. An avid sportsman and huntsman, he was a loving father, husband, brother, son, friend and role model. He served in the Army from 1972 to 1974 as a military police officer. He then worked as a peace officer for the Edinburg Police Department before starting his teaching career of 32 years with Edinburg CISD and Hidalgo ISD. As a teacher he touched many lives and helped countless students begin careers in law enforcement, education, military service and countless fields to help make his community a better place. He is survived by his loving wife Sylvia Ann (Reyna) Ramirez; three sons: Leopoldo (Melissa) Ramirez, Jr., Xavier (Priscilla) Ramirez and Leonel (Melina) Ramirez; his mother: Maria de Jesusa Ramirez; four brothers: Leonel (Nelda) Ramirez, David (Linda) Ramirez, Leobardo (Leticia) Ramirez and Rene (Berta) Ramirez; two sisters: Cleo (Roy) Ramon and Gloria (Javier) Femat; four grandchildren: Taylor, Natalia, Xavier Hawk and Jack Wolfe Ramirez . He will be dearly missed by all and fondly remembered through the beautiful legacy he leaves behind. Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm Monday, March 10, 2014 at Rivera Funeral Home of McAllen with a recitation of the rosary at 7:00 pm. A lifelong member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission, the Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 am Tuesday, March 11, 2014 with Father Roy Snipes officiating. Interment will follow at 1:00 pm at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. In lieu of floral arrangements, the family requests donations to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
