1953 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
RICHARD WATTS McALLEN - Richard Watts, 61, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 15, 2014. He was born March 25, 1953 in Pharr, Texas. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam War in the 1970s as military intelligence. After he was honorably discharged receiving the National Defense Service Medal, he was employed by the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office and Harris County Sheriff's Office, for several years, eventually leaving law enforcement and obtaining employment with the United States Postal Service in McAllen, Texas, where he worked for 20 years, retiring in 1998. He is survived by his wife, Jane (Chapa) Watts of McAllen, Texas; His son Richard Watts, Jr. of McAllen, Texas; four daughters, Rita Ann Watts, of McAllen, Texas; Roxana Garcia (Guillermo) of Corpus Christi, Texas; Maritza Sotello (Joe) of San Antonio, Texas; Mirta Hernandez (Frank) of San Antonio, Texas; Brothers George Watts, Sr. (JoAnn) of Pharr, Texas and Steve Watts (Estella) of Houston, Texas; Several grandchildren, nephews, and nieces. Mr. Watts was preceded in death by his father Esteban Watts and mother Sara Guerra Watts, both of Pharr, Texas. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2014 from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Ceballos Funeral Home at 1023 N. 23rd Street in McAllen, with a rosary taking place at 7:00 pm. The funeral mass will be held on Friday, July 18, 2014 at 9:30 am at Holy Spirit Catholic Church at 2201 Martin Avenue in McAllen, Texas. Interment with military honors will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery at 2520 South Inspiration Road in Mission, Texas. Pallbearers include nephews James Rodney Watts, Mark Anthony Watts, Casey Joe Watts, Moses Flores, Michael Garza, Ralph Garcia, Jr. and Godson, Steven Amos Smith. Honorary pallbearers include nephew George Watts, Jr., grandson Manuel "Trey" Ruiz III, and brother-in-laws Hector Flores and John Carrasco. Funeral arrangements and services were entrusted to the care of Ceballos Funeral Home in McAllen. The family would like to thank Dr. Kenneth Ro and emergency staff at McAllen Medical Center.
