Nelda G. Montalvo Obituary
McAllen - Nelda G. Montalvo, 85 of McAllen, Texas, entered her eternal rest on October 8, 2018 at Amara Hospice in Edinburg, Texas. Nelda was born in Brownsville, Texas on January 29, 1933. She was married to the late Raul A. Montalvo Sr. in 1957. She is preceded in death by her parents, Miguel F. Garcia and Lillie Monroe Garcia; sisters, Stella Garcia Zarate of Raymondville, Texas, Lillie Garcia Tijerina of McAllen, Texas and her son- in- law, Miguel Martinez Jr. Nelda spent her first years in Brownsville and Raymondville, Texas, before moving to Rio Grande City with her family at the age of three. Growing up, she attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School for elementary and junior high. She spent her high school and college years in San Antonio, Texas, attending Incarnate Word High School and later, Incarnate Word College. Nelda continued her college education at Texas Pan American in Edinburg, Texas studying Art. During her 28 years in San Isidro, Nelda was an active member of the community. She enjoyed participating in local church activities and worked as a substitute teacher, alongside with her husband she ran their cattle business. Later moving to McAllen, Texas, she was a franchisee and led four stores of The Great American Cookie Company in McAllen, Harlingen, Laredo, and San Antonio, Texas for twenty years. In recognition of her entrepreneurship accomplishments, Nelda was selected as Business Woman of the Year in 1988 by University of Texas Pan American. Throughout her life, Nelda loved to travel - taking in sights across the globe with her three sisters. Nelda also had a passion for fashion and dance. Nelda is survived by her sister, Virginia Garcia Heath "Pini" of McAllen, Texas and her five children: Raul A. Montalvo Jr. "Rudy" and his wife Sylvia Medrano Montalvo of Weslaco, Texas and their two daughters, Tanya Marie Montalvo and Nadia Lee Montalvo; Lillie Annette Montalvo Longoria of Edinburg, Texas, and her husband Diego Zambrano and her two sons, John Michael Rangel and Robert Raul Longoria; Cynthia Yvonne Montalvo Martinez "Cindy" of McAllen, Texas and her two children, Michael Allen Martinez and Cassandra Yvonne Martinez; Francisco Miguel Montalvo "Frank" of San Isidro, Texas, and his wife Carla Taylor Montalvo and his two sons, Francisco Connor Montalvo and Logan Carl Montalvo; Nelda Ursula Montalvo Pope "Nena" of McAllen and husband, Dr. Bill Douglas Pope Jr. and children, Victoria Ivette Pope, Bill Douglas Pope III, and Alexander Douglas Pope. Nelda's legacy will live on in her children, and she will be dearly missed. Visitation will be held at Funeraria Del Angel Del-Palm Valley, 4607 N. Sugar Rd., Pharr, TX from 1:00 pm -9:00pm with a rosary recited at 7 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am, Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at San Isidro Catholic Church in San Isidro. Interment will follow at Montalvo Cemetery in San Isidro, Texas. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Funeraria del Angel Palm Valley of Pharr.
