James L. Iler, age 78, of Perrinton, passed away Monday, March 25, 2013 at his home with his family by his side.
Jim was born March 16, 1935 in Middleton, the son of Durward and Helen (Johnson) Iler. He was a 1954 graduate of Fulton High School. Jim served his country three years in the Army. He was proud to be a graduate of "Little West Point" and ranked second in his graduating class. Jim married Barbara Gallagher on June 21, 1958 at the Perrinton United Methodist Church. Jim owned and operated Ilers Excavating. He retired from General Motors after 31 years. He enjoyed hunting, racing snowmobiles and being the "greeter" at the M-46 Market and Gas Station. Jim was a life member of the Mark Daniels VFW Post #1735.
Jim is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara of Perrinton; daughter, Kim (John) Hasbany of Riverdale; six grandchildren, Jerios, James, Joseph, Julianne, Cody and Crystal; and a brother, Stuart of Alma.
After the death of his sister, Joyce and her husband, Kenneth (Jack), Jim had guardianship of the four Taylor children, Darrell, Kenneth (Ed), Linda and Helen.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; son, James Iler, II in 2001; sisters, Joyce Taylor, Joy Chick and Beverly Schollheart.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, March 28, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Pompeii United Methodist Church with Pastor Bill Dye officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lux and Dodge Funeral Home in Middleton. Interment will be in Fulton Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Perrinton and Pompeii United Methodist Churches or the Fowler VFW.
