Antoinette Margaret Kanitz(1920 - 2014)

Kanitz, Antoinette Margaret “Toni”; age 93; of Crystal; passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Carson City Hospital. She was born June 5, 1920 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Andrew and Julia (Vorjak) Komperda. Toni grew up in St. Louis, MI and spent 60 years in Alma. During W.W.II Toni worked in a Machine Gun Factory in Saginaw. She later worked in a sugar beet plant where she met her husband, Kenneth Kanitz and they were married in 1947. She also spent many years growing her business of wedding and specialty cakes. Toni was known all over the state of Michigan for her delicious and beautifully crafted work. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a past Altar Society member. Toni enjoyed gardening, canning and sewing. Toni is survived by her children, Bonnie Kanitz of Crystal, Ronald James (Theresa Myrick) Kanitz of Big Rapids and William Kanitz of Venice, FL; 8 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth; a grandson, Ross Kanitz; son-in-law, Kermit Bryant; 3 brothers, Joe, Walter and Paul Komperda; and a sister, Anna Burskotter Baker. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 7, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Nativity of the Lord Parish, Mt. Saint Joseph Catholic Church 605 S. Franklin St., St. Louis with Fr. Nate Harburg officiating. Interment will follow in Pritchard Cemetery, Sumner Township. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Lux-Moody-Wolfel Funeral Home with a Prayer Service being held at 7:30 p.m. officiated by Deacon John Cremin. Memorial contributions may be made to Nativity of the Lord Parish.
