Betty Jo (Bahr) Martin, age 90, went home to be with the Lord on
Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at home surrounded by her family. Her journey started October 1, 1923 in Marilla Twp., MI. She was one of seven children, Merlin, Charles, Warren, Calvin, Grace and Irene, born to Leo Francis and Iva Pearl Bahr.
Betty Jo attended college at Central Michigan Teaching School graduating in 1963. She taught for 33 years.
In 1947 she married the love of her life, Joseph Herman Martin, and they were married for 55 years. Together they had three children, Greg, Jeff and Brad. Betty Jo will be loved and remembered by sons, Jeff and daughter by marriage, Janice and Brad and his wife, Traci; 8 grandchildren, Raquel (Earl) Ingram, Danielle (Tonya Bondale) Martin, Gregory, Jr. (Carissa) Martin, Holly (Jerry) Pulcifer, Rachel (Brandon) Simmer, Joseph Martin, Tanya Harry, Charles Robinson, Kelly Leonard, Scott Murphy and Jake Murphy; 21 great grandchildren, Noah, Logan and Lane Ingram, Miayah Martin, Hayley and Nikhil, Taylor and Gracie Martin, Dauson Wcisel, Austin and Collin Pulcifer, Jeffrey and Jonathan Simmer, Carter Martin, Madison Bennett, Tyler and Daphne Murphy, Emma, Sarah, Helieghy and Mike Leonard; her sister, Grace and her brother, Charles; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Those who went before Betty Jo were her parents, Leo and Iva; her beloved husband, Joseph; a son, Greg; a sister, Irene; and brothers, Warren, Calvin and Merlin.
Betty Jo had a strong faith and was a devout Catholic. "Boss" as she was known to her grandchildren had many hobbies and interests which included: playing cards, reading, and crossword puzzles. She loved to paint, make washcloths and scrubbies, quilt, and loom rugs. She looked forward to time spent with family and always enjoyed reunions, holidays and birthdays. She spent a lot of time up north with her brothers and sisters at the cabin. Her passion was the Amish Sale where she spent many spring and fall seasons, and genealogy.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at St. Joseph The Worker Parish in Beal City with the family greeting friends one hour prior from 9 to 10 a.m. Father Ricky Varner will be officiating. The family will greet friends from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 25, 2013 at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton with a vigil held at 7 p.m. (tonight).
