Alward, Dolores Marie; 82; of Vestaburg, Michigan and Zephryhills, Florida, formerly of Alma; died Monday, April 14, 2014; at Florida Hospital at Connerton with family at her side, after a six week illness. She was born in Alma on May 19, 1931, to Leonard L. Rench and Julia E. (Hasbrook) Rench, Meyer. She attended Alma Public Schools in the same block: Lincoln Elementary, Stilwell Junior High, Alma High School’s class of 1949. She married Donald G. Alward on September 21, 1949. She was a dedicated and loyal employee of JC Penney for 43 years starting in sales, stock room, cashier, and office manager. Don and Dolores traveled to all 50 states and enjoyed casinos. She loved playing cards including Euchre, 13, Pinochle. In her younger years, she enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling. She was an active girl scout and leader. She was an active planner of the AHS Class of 1948/1949 Reunions. She was a member of the Jean Bessac Chapter of DAR and chairperson of the Good Citizen Committee in local schools for 25 years. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her husband of nearly 65 years; two children, Nancy (David) Michael of Alma and Kenneth (Sandra) Alward of Ithaca; four grandchildren, Thomas (Charity) Fredrick of Belding, Alan Fredrick of Alma, Vicki (Mike) Williams of Ithaca, and Daniel (Veronica) Alward of Pompeii; eight great grandchildren, Ashley (Mark) Lalone, Gregory and Nicholette Fredrick, Cassandra (Mike Brady) Fredrick. Hayley and Sarah Williams, Aurora and Briana Alward; and two great grea grandchildren, Jade and Kitana LaLone. She was preceded in death by her parents; and Lucille (Hasbrook) Smith and Dorwin Rench; extended family sister and brother. Visitation will be held at Dewey Funeral Home in Alma on Sunday, April 27, 2014 from 1 to 6 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, April 28, 2014 at 1 p.m. from Dewey’s.
