Elwood "Jack" Jack Walton, age 87, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2013, at Woodland Hospice House.
A Funeral Mass for Jack will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Thomas Held officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at Clark Family Funeral Chapel. There will be a Vigil for Jack held Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Visitation will follow from 10 a.m. until the time of Service on Wednesday, October 30, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Cancer Services or Woodland Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel and the church.
Elwood was born on August 3, 1926, in Rosebush, the son of Leon Glenn and Violet (Wixson) Walton. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in the Class of 1945. After graduation, he served in the United States Armed Forces. He then worked for 38 years as a pipefitter and welder for the Dow Chemical Company, retiring in 1987. Elwood married Virginia Bierschbach on October 7, 1950, in Beal City. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Elwood enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as woodworking and landscaping.
Jack is survived by his wife, Virginia Walton of Mt. Pleasant; his children Yvonne Wezensky (George) of Mt. Pleasant, Debra Campbell of Alma, Kevin Walton (Kathy Battleshaw) of Weidman, and Brian Walton (Denise) of Shepherd; seven grandchildren, Travis and Jesse Wezensky, Shannon Newman, Christopher Campbell, Jennifer Beck, Mallory Walton, and Shelby Walton; eight great grandchildren; and sister, Sharla Pfeiffer of Mt. Pleasant.
Jack was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Bill Campbell; brothers, Jim, Bill, and Bob Walton; and sisters, Phyllis Barrera and Rachel Yoder.
