Jeanine Ellen Colbry Avery, age 70, of Alma, Michigan, died January 1, 2013.
A Memorial Service, in Celebration of her Life, will be held at Polk Street United Methodist Church, Amarillo, Texas, on Saturday, January 19, at 1 p.m. with a reception following. Another Memorial Service will be held in Breckenridge Michigan in the spring.
Jeanine was born on April 5, 1942 in St. Louis, Michigan to Norman and Ruth Colbry. She was raised in Michigan and has been a resident of Amarillo, Texas from 1989 to 2011. In 2011, she moved to Alma, Michigan, and was living there at the time of her passing. Her final remains will be laid to rest alongside family at Ridgelawn Cemetery, in Breckenridge, Michigan.
Jeanine had a passion for her family and friends. She was very generous and kind hearted always putting others before herself and never asking for credit or anything in return. She especially loved children and teaching. She began her teaching career in a one-room school house in Allegan County, Michigan. The majority of her teaching career was in lower elementary, however, she was able to share her teaching experiences with other teachers during her employment with the Region 16 Head Start program, from which she retired in 2003.
Survivors include her daughter, Erika Rivera and husband, Luis Mora of Amarillo, Texas; a son-in-law, Ken Hutson of Silverton, Texas; a sister, Ann Morford of Scottsdale, Arizona; a brother, Norm Colbry and wife, Alberta of Chelsea, Michigan; a brother, Joel Colbry and wife, Diane of Merrill, Michigan; six grandchildren, Cheyanne Skelton, Kade Hutson, Madeline Rivera, Rachel Rivera, Lindsley Mora and Shawn Mora; one great grandchild, Abigail Skelton; six nieces; four nephews; and a multitude of friends.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Noël Hutson.
