Miller, John William, Sr.; age 75; of Elwell, MI; passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw, MI; on Saturday, April 5, 2014. John was born on July 23, 1938 in Seville Township, the son of Willard and Marie Ruth (Gee) Miller. He was raised in the Elwell area and graduated from Alma High School with the class of 1957. He furthered his education studying agriculture at Michigan State University
. John was employed at Lobdell Emery for 35 years, retiring in 1995. He was also a life-long, self-employed farmer. John enjoyed farming, hunting, bowling, spending time with his family and his dog Ginger. He was very proud of being part of the 1957 Alma High School State Champion Football team. He also loved watching Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy and the Young and Restless. John was a member of the Seville Community Church of God and the St. Louis Moose Lodge Number 1566. On May 23, 1970, John married Harriet E. Schlarf in Seville Township, who survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Robin (Dave) Gingerich of Alma and Laura (Bryn) Sneary of Burton; four sons, Herb (Kathleen) Weaver of Alma , John Jr. and his special friend, Sharla Welch of Alma; Merle Miller of Alma and Don (Jody) Weaver of Vestaburg; 13 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren; three siblings, Henry (Barb) Miller of Elwell, Edward (Gwen) Miller of Georgia and Francis Miller of Alma and numerous extended family members and friends. John was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Marie Ruth; a son, David Miller; two brothers, Jim and Richard; and two sisters, Zelma Marshall and Alma Silva. A Funeral Service honoring John will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at 12 Noon at the Seville Church of God, with Pastor George Showers officiating. A visitation will be held two hours prior to the service (10 a.m. to 12 Noon) also at the church.
