Kathleen McNeel(1927 - 2014)

McNEEL, KATHLEEN “Katie” BAKER; age 87; of Mt. Pleasant passed away Thursday, April 10, 2014, at Margaret’s Meadow in Remus. A Memorial Service for Kathleen will be held in July. Kathleen was born on February 23, 1927, in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Lytel and Amelia (Podjun) Baker. She was married to John Porterfield in 1947 and to Wakelin McNeel Jr. in 1962. Kathleen was a grade school teacher in Luther and Mt. Pleasant. She was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Community Church, Garden Club, and the Chippewa Watershed Conservancy. Katie enjoyed spending her time gardening, visiting with family and friends, and supporting art. She was dedicated to the preservation of forested and special land in Michigan. Katie is survived by her children, Kathleen “Nina” (Marvin) Porterfield-Rau of Kansas City, Hannah Margaret (Ed) Walch of Remus, Wakelin “Ted” (Rosee Brumfield) McNeel of L.A., California, Amie McNeel of Seattle, Washington, and Ross (Maria Bourdet) McNeel of Mt. Pleasant; 11 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; brother, Paul Ross Baker of Utica, NY; and sister, Jayne Yost of Ann Arbor. Katie was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, and sisters Neta Armstrong and Connie Yost.
