Lloyd R. Battle, age 82, of Farwell, passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, September 1, 2013, at his daughter's home in Mt. Pleasant. He was born the son of William and Ella Jane (Alger) Battle on November 18, 1930, near Clare. He married Marvilene Jane Miller, formerly of Eaton Rapids Michigan, on October 21, 1951. Immediately after his marriage, he was sent to Colorado, where he served in the US Army during the Korean War as a demolition expert. Lloyd worked most of his life as a machinist in the Tool and Die Industry. After leaving the army, he resided in the Clare area and had been a member of the Clare Moose Lodge. He frequented the Farwell Senior Center and enjoyed farming, hunting, playing cards and snowmobiling.
Lloyd is survived by his wife, Marvilene; his son, William (Tina Henry) Battle of Evart; his daughters, Julie (Hugh) Lewis of Beaverton and Shelley (Robert) Kemmerling of Mt. Pleasant; his sister, Thelma (Larry) Randle of Clare; 9 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Frank; and sister, Naomi Larman.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 7, at 11 a.m. from the Clare Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home, with Rev. Dr. David Maier officiating. Burial will be at Cherry Grove Cemetery in Clare. Friends may call on Friday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. Memorials may be made to the Woodland Hospice.
