Mary Sugar(1924 - 2014)

Sugar, Mary; age 89; of Alma; formerly of Breckenridge; passed away Monday, March 10, 2014 at the Mid-Michigan Medical Center-Gratiot in Alma. Mary was born September 18, 1924 in Owosso the daughter of Lawrence and Olive (Chapman) Clare. She graduated from Shepherd High School, the class of 1942. Mary married Louis Sugar in July of 1942. She worked for Wilcox Hospital for 12 years and with Park Hotel in St. Louis for two years. Mary also was a foster grandmother in St. Louis Schools for six years. She enjoyed working with ceramics, cooking, camping with family, cake decorating and wintering in Florida. She is survived by her children, Lawrence (Janet) Sugar of Wildwood, FL, Robert (Kathy) Sugar of Hemlock, Nancy (Robert) Burlingame of Alma, Thomas (Deborah) Sugar of St. Louis, Ken Sugar of Riverdale; 12 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Claus. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Louis in 1997; children, Patricia Sugar in 1982, John Sugar in 1944; brothers, Arden Clare, Lawrence Clare, Raymond Hultz, Richard Hultz; and sister, Florence Hadley. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, March 13, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Church of the Nazarene in Alma with Pastor Brian Huff officiating. Interment will be in Salt River Cemetery, Shepherd. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lux-Moody-Wolfel Funeral Home, Alma. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Carrie Knause Elementary School Library or Mid-Michigan Hospice.
