Sylvia Mae Brown(1917 - 2014)

BROWN, SYLVIA MAE; age 96; of Mt. Pleasant; passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at McLaren-Central Michigan. Funeral Services for Sylvia will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 23, 2014, at Clark Family Funeral Chapel with Rev. Diane Gordon of First United Methodist Church officiating. A luncheon will follow in the Reflections Reception Center. Interment will take place in Riverside Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, 2014 at Clark Family Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Isabella County Red Cross, or Mid Michigan Autism Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel. Sylvia was born on June 19, 1917, in Logan, OH, the daughter of Fred and Gladys (Spurrier) Heinlein. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in the Class of 1935. Sylvia married Ernest “Brownie” Brown in October of 1935. She had worked as a teacher’s aide at Fancher School. Sylvia was a 70-year member of First United Methodist Church, a life member and chapter chairman of the American Red Cross, blood bank coordinator, and CMCH Auxiliary volunteer. In February of 2012 she was honored with an Eagle Award for her service to the community with the Central Michigan Chapter of the American Red Cross. In 1971 she was the recipient of the Charles McKenzie Humanitarian Award. Sylvia was a member of the Tourist Club and the High Street Bridge Group. Sylvia is survived by her daughter M. Sue (George) Brown-Miller of East Lansing; her two grandchildren, Marsha (David) Hicks of Franklin, TN, and Matthew (Kristan) Miller of Charlotte; two great-grandchildren, Madison and Mitchell Miller; nieces and nephew Mary Hafer and Jerry Card, Molly and Cornell LaLone, Jeff and Chris Hafer, and Ann and Steve Recker. Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest “Brownie” Brown in 1981, her parents, three sisters, and family friend Vance Orr. The family would like to thank Carole Ford for her loving care of Sylvia.
